Exhibition in Portsmouth University

This is a picture I took on the exhibition in Portsmouth
University.
I really like the way my work is displayed. It is in the area with the artefact with the same subject matters as mine. What I love about it is the spotlights pointed on my model making the design looking very professional. The lights create many shadows on the model which makes it the impression of a real building as if the light is a sun. I really like this effect.
The elements around my artefact complements my project especial the colours and the shapes of it. In the same time the sits allow the viewers sit down around my work and reflect on it.
I really like the fact that my artefact is placed in the corridor of the university because it is seen by hundreds of student each day passing by the corridor.
This is a close up view of the designing board which explain my model very well. It makes the viewer understand my project more and actually visual the lobby.
Those two pictures show the close up view of the model. I think is great that it is placed tinted and on the plinth which makes it look very professional like in a gallery
.
In my opinion the exhibition in Portsmouth University was very successful and I’m very happy and privileged to be part of it. The privet view was a susses, many people turn up and the performance from different colleges entertain all of the gests. Overall it was very good experience and I have learned a lot from it. I am sure I will benefit from this experience in the future.

Final design

Freeze Frame Hotel
This is a picture of my final idea. I have been working in free to download from internet designing application called SketchUp7. I really enjoyed working with this program and I found it quite easy to work on. The positive side of the program is that it makes the designs look very professional and sharp. Unfortunately is very time consuming because is like drawing but on the computer, so I had to drawn all the elements in my design from scratch.
I decided to capture the outside of the building in this angle because I think it really creates very nice effect and it highlights the best aspects of the design. As you can see the glass entrance doors and walls allowing natural light in to the interior plus it brings the outdoors atmosphere in to the inside space. I thing the entrance is very friendly for customers. I decided to use very unconventional type of windows. I think they are very original and bring a lot of light in to the lobby as well by their shape I have tried to capture a movement. In my opinion it worked quite well.
This is a front view of the building and you can see through the glass door the part of interior. Underneath is the same picture but striped from any colour or effects showing the basic lines, structure of the building.

This is a floor plan of the whole building which allows us to see all the elements of the building. Looking at the bottom right of the picture we can notice a sitting area, six tables witch carved benches. Then going up we can see very interesting shape which in fact is a floor aquarium. On the same level on the left we can see oval shaped reception desk. Finally on the top left is a central piece staircase leading in to the lift.

I think all the elements are working together very well and creating flowing effect. I really like the dynamic of the interior, different shape are making the design very interesting.

This is the same floor plan but in basic colours.

Bird view of the same design allowing me to show more details of my interior all the patterns and materials I have used in this building. We can also see the pattern I have drawn in my sketchbook (look ‘my sketchbook work’ post) and then use it in the rugs underneath the tables. Also we can see the details of the floor aquarium.

This is a bird view but from a little bit different angle showing the future wall.

This is an example of the final staircase in my design leading in to the lift. As you can see the stairs are very unusual shape and we can notice a sculpture on the centre of the structure. By all the elements in this design I was trying to capture the movement and I think because of the original shape it really worked well. I made sure that the steps are not too high and not to wide so they comfortable for the customers to walk on.

This is a close up view at the reception desk. The camera creates a effect of the eye level of the customers so we can see how the design will look in a real life.

More information about Antonio Gaudi’s designs.

These are some information I gather on the Barcelona trip:

Antonio Gaudi was a Spanish designer bon in 1852 in Reus, Spain. He studied at the Escola Superior d'Arquitectura in Barcelona and designed his first major commission for the Casa Vincens in Barcelona using a Gothic Revival style that set a precedent for his future work. He was very passionate believer in God and his he was using religious aspects in some of his designs. He developed sensuous, curving; almost surreal design style established him as the innovative leader of the Spanish Art Nouveau movement. His hard work reflects in his designs. Three days before his death he was run over by a tram in Barcelona in 1926 and because of that he passed away. The accident didn’t stop him of hard work and until his last breath he was drawing his ideas on paper.

La Sagrada Familia
These are pictures I took of the Sagrada Familia cathedral design by Antonio Gaudi. As you can see the building is very different then comment knows cathedrals all over the world. Gaudi was working on this project for 10 years and you can see that every element of this structure is worked to the perfection. All the components are working together and create an impression of movement. The design is very dynamic and full of energy plus it inspired me as well. His designs defiantly made me curtained that I want to be a designer myself

One of the biggest impacts on my project had this staircase inspired by nature (shell). I love the dynamic and look of this set of stairs. There is defiantly movement capture with in this structure

My sketchbook work

These are examples of the
drawings from my sketchbook. I really like the look of them because they look very professional especial the one drawn with fine pen.

This drawing is inspired by Victor Horta's designs. I started to build up this flowing design with very organic elements. I like the energy of this design and I think it worked out very well.I think I will use this pattern in my final design.

The inspiration for those two drawings I took from the interior design magazine. I think both of them capturing movement. In my opinion they are quite successful especially the mirror is my favourite maybe because is in an art nouveau stile.

This is very similar example to the drawing on the top of the page and as well as the previous I have been inspired by Horta’s designs. I used some colour to make the drawing more interesting. I think it worked and the drawing is very successful. In my opinion is more flowing then the black and white one and is more delicate as well.

Those are the decorative elements I have drawn inspired by articles in interior design magazines. I was trying to capture movement within those designs. I don’t think they worked out very well but they are very nice and decorative and I think many people would use them in their houses.

Trip to Barelona

On the beginning of February I went on a trip to Barcelona with my college group. Before I went I really didn’t know what to expect, the only think I knew about this city is that it is full of public art. I was pleasantly surprise of amount of art and incredible architecture this city offers. I have fall in love particular in Casa Milà design by Antoni Gaudí. This experience opened my eyes for different aspects of design aspecial  for architecture. It made me change the concept of my project. I have decided to focused more on the movement within the design by architecture and elements within the space more than decorative elements.

Casa Milà

This is a front view of Casa Mila. As you can see this building is defiantly original, different than anything I ever seen before. Gaudi’s design is very brave and he creates and discovers unconventional architectural structure. His design is very inspirational for me not only because is an incredible piece of art but you can see his passion behind anything he has done.

This is a model of the Casa Mila placed on the top of the building in the attic of the museum. I love all the details capture form the actual building in this model.

These are incredible picture of inside of the building. Gaudi not only created lovely outside of the house but he designed inside of the building to perfection as well. Plus it plays a big role of the capturing natural lighting in the interior.

These are pictures of the interior of the rooms in Casa Mila. I think it is incredible that I could see the original arrangement of the rooms. The experience made me feel like I travelled in to past times, I almost could fell and hear people going around the flat, carry on their domestic activities, I found it fascinating.

This is Me in the kitchen.

Visiting Casa Mila was such an incredible experience. I have enjoy every moment of it. I have learned a lot and it really helped me with development of my project.

Inspiration

I have been trying to draw different pattern in my sketchbook. I have been inspired by Victor Horta. As you can see the line a very flowing and delicate. This is the first study i did so its not as successfully as i would like it to be . I will take this sketch feather and build it up or use different media then pencil.

These are few photos of my drawing.
